About Ankrish
With a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Minor in Philosophy from Bates College (a top 20 liberal arts college), my academic foundations are both rigorous and well-rounded. I am passionate about science, nutrition, and healthcare, and will be starting medical school this summer at University of Vermont's Larner College of Medicine.
My admission to medical school was in large part a result of my strong study habits, 2+ years of clinical and laboratory research experience in a world-renowned hospital (Brigham and Women's), and an MCAT score in top 7% of all test takers. For those who don't know, the MCAT is a 7-hour long examination that not only tests the basic sciences, but also math, reading comprehension, reasoning/analysis, psychology, and sociology. Rest assured, I am qualified to tutor in a variety of subjects at the high school or middle school level. If you're looking for a science tutor specifically, that would be even better, as science is my strength. More important than a boring list of qualifications, however, are the experiences I've had and the qualities I possess that would make me a great fit to tutor you or your child.
I have worked extensively with children and teenagers ages 6-16 as a tennis camp counselors for five summers. While there, I developed patience, adaptability, and creativity as I developed engaging and fun lessons for kids at all levels. At Bates College, I served as an organic chemistry tutor, where I tailored my educational approach to each student and helped them with homework and test preparation. At Brigham and Women's Hospital, I conducted research in a laboratory, contributed to stem cell and regenerative biology, and spent countless hours speaking to patients for studies and shadowing in the operating room. In the summers at the Brigham, I helped mentor high school and college level interns by teaching them laboratory techniques and explaining all of our research studies to them in ways that they could understand.
With regard to my qualities and values, I am a big believer in the interconnectedness of science and the humanities. I see have seen how science was born from philosophy, and how philosophy's spirit of questioning and truth-seeking manifests in the scientific method. If there's one thing I'm good at, it's asking questions relentlessly and finding answers systematically (or realizing that there is no single answer and subsequently coming to terms with that reality). I hope that I can not only help you or your child improve grades and test scores, but I also hope that I can pass on this sense of curiosity.

I will have a one on one discussion with the student over a video call (e.g. Zoom) about their goals and needs, as well as the assignments or material that they might be struggling with. I'll also assess their study/work habits and the types of resources they are using. Based on all of this information, I will take some time on my own to put together a lesson plan to help achieve the student's goals.

Details
My minimum rate is $20/hour, but I am flexible and have a pay-what-you-can pricing model. I want to help as many people as possible, but I would also hope to be compensated fairly.
