About Karen

Hi, I'm Karen! I'm currently a senior, majoring in Chemistry at Columbia University (GPA: 3.82). I'm a Physics and Chemistry tutor. After excelling in my organic chemistry courses, I served as a T.A. for Organic Chemistry I and II lectures, where I helped ~70 students develop their organic chemistry intuition. I also taught ChemDraw and Spartan computational chemistry programs for students taking intro organic chemistry lab courses!

As a senior, I have taken most of my major requirements and can take you through: (1) General Chemistry, (2) Organic Chemistry, (3) Inorganic Chemistry, (4) Analytical Chemistry (spectroscopy), (5) Computational chemistry softwares, (6) General and organic chemistry lab, and (7) interpreting NMR and IR spectra.

I have also excelled in my Physics Mechanics and Physics Electricity & Magnetism classes, which were calculus-based. I am a very visual learner and draw out problems using different colors on my iPad during tutoring!

I have a passion for teaching and can help you understand complex concepts into digestable snacks! Trust me, I went from scoring in the 50's in all of these "weed-out) classes to receiving an A's at the end. My approach to studying has always been very problem-based, and I have hundreds of practice problems that I can take us through.

In my current job, I conduct research in an organic synthesis lab, interpreting and tabulating NMR and IR spectroscopy data.

About the lesson

I listen to what students don't understand and explain the concept by drawing colorful pictures and diagrams on my iPad. Then, I drill you with practice problems, which are essential for doing well in chemistry and physics courses.

I have worked with college students, some pre-health students, and many high school students taking AP courses or just struggling with biology, chemistry, or physics courses.
