About Jacob

My service stands out due to its flexibility and variety. I do both virtual and in-person tutoring. For in-person tutoring, I go anywhere in the LA area. It does not matter whether the client wishes to come to me or whether I go to them. I tutor a variety of subjects including Math up to pre-calc, chemistry, physics, and history. I tutor many different levels ranging from middle school to undergraduate. It does not matter whether the client needs help with understanding general principles or solving specific problems since I am able to help with both. Many of the clients I tutor are pre-health high schoolers or undergraduates. Not only do I have plenty of experience taking pre-health classes, I have also taken the MCAT and understand the main concepts for related subjects.

I really enjoy the interpersonal connection that my clients and I gain. It really helps them to discuss the problems that they are struggling with and being able to relate to them since I went through the same thing. I also really enjoy the opportunity to improve my teaching skills, as I am able to explain difficult topics in a simple manner.

As someone trying to get into the medical field and eventually become a physician, I thought it would be useful for both the skills and the resume to gain teaching experience. I considered becoming a Learning Assistant for a class that I previously have taken at UCLA, but I chose tutoring instead due to the flexibility and income.

I have 3 years worth of undergraduate experience as a pre-med student at UCLA. I have taken classes in general chemistry, organic chemistry, physics, and biology among other subjects. I have done well in my classes, as I currently have a 3.95 GPA. I have also taken the MCAT and scored in the 82nd percentile. With regards to training, I have been tutoring indepenently and for a couple tutoring companies since fall of last year, and have had nearly a dozen clients.

About the lesson

Pretty simple! The student and I get in touch. I usually ask the students a few questions such as what topics they are going over, whether they would prefer to do online or in-person tutoring, and their preferences for COVID safety. I usually ask for the student to send me a picture of some practice questions so that I can be fully prepared before the lesson. We than schedule a lesson and go from there.

I have worked with students from 8th grade to sophomore year of college. I have tutored students with learning disabilities and attention deficits. Some of the subjects that I have helped students with include general chemistry, organic chemistry, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, physics, biology, and AP History.

Especially for the sciences, look for teachers who are able to understand concepts on a conceptual level rather than someone who only memorizes certain facts and equations.

Jacob is fantastic! He’s very thorough and very patient. He really tries to not only teach the lesson, but also explains why it is the way it is. As a parent, I know what my child responds well to and Jacob utilized the information I provided him to build a great working relationship with my child. Details

My rate is $40 an hour for 1 person at a time, $60 an hour for a group of 2, and $75 an hour for 3 people. For 1 person, every additional half hour is $20. I usually don't go past 2 hours for the lessons.
