About

I have six years of formal biology experience under my belt and continue to be involved in the field, and on top of this have coming on 3 years of academic mentoring experience. This includes serving as a learning assistant in the Introduction to Molecular Biology class at the University of Colorado, Boulder and as the Co-Lead Mentor for the Miramontes Arts and Sciences Program's Program for Excellence in Academics and Community. As such I am very well versed in helping others learn, and believe that you should always meet people where they are academically, but not leave them there.

I have completed CU Boulder's "Becoming a Learning Assistant" course which taught me the fundamentals of how to be an effective educator, and have completed multiple Motivational Interviewing training. Together these help me to teach, as a significant portion of academic success comes from believing that this success is possible in the first place. This fixed versus growth mindset with regards to learning can have an incredible effect on how well one learns, and so I work to convince each student that they can succeed while helping them to learn the material.

About the lesson

When meeting with a new student, I find that it is best to get to know them first and get an idea of both what they know and how they learn best. No one learns the same way as anyone else, and so I work to individually tailor how I teach so that each student gets the most out of each session.

Details

Lessons start at a standard rate of $20/hr. Group rates are variable depending on how many students will be taught at once, but will be less than $20 per student per hour. If looking to book multiple tutoring sessions at once, a discounted rate can be negotiated.
