About Rocco
My education is rooted entirely in the learning processes of others. So I know that patience is everything when it comes to understanding something truly difficult. You will find no one more patient, while remaining set on moving you toward your goals.
I'm always most pleased when a student reveals something to me that I had never thought of before. Perspective is everything, and I can't imagine a job more suited for gaining perspective than teaching.
I teach science in NC public schools and my degree is specifically in secondary education in chemistry.
I've also taught calculus, trigonometry, and physics in past positions at high school and pre-college levels.
My education was centered heavily around engineering and math, but my time in public education has rounded out my understanding of all sciences, including biology and ecology.

You will never learn from someone that you have no relationship to. While an online tutor may seem to offer only a paper thin relationship, it can be more than that - and to suceed, I'd argue that it must be.
The first session is about finding common ground, and making sure we can communicate effectively. WIthout this, there can be 10 sessions where nothing is ever really said.
At the same time, it is important for me to understand what you know and what you don't. We will not be starting at square one of every subject - learning is not a stepwise process. There are connections and understandings that you already have that I will identify and make sure we leverage.

Details
I have two rates.
Early college and high school level math and science = $50/hr
Early education and middle school level math and science = $35/hr
The difference in rates has to do with the price of materials involved (textbooks) as well as the man hours it takes to prepare lessons from classes with hundreds of hours of raw content vs. classes with maybe 10-20 hours of content.
