About Helaina

Gomez Math & Science Tutoring is an individually owned and operated business by me, Helaina Gomez. I am an Ecology Student at Shorter University with a double minor in Biology and Cheimstry. I have had a passion for Math and Science my entire childhood into adulthood and would love to share my knowledge with you or your student. I bring a unique approach to understanding those math problems that stump students and a new meaning to scientific theories that sometimes seem beyond reach. I hope to not only help with grades but to bring knowledge and learning techniques to last a lifetime. I can assist in Biology, Ecology, Zoology, Environmental Science, Inorganic and Organic Chemistry, Precalculus, Calculus, Algebra, Statistics, etc. Although it is not my major, I have also received outstanding grades in English and History classes so please never hesitate to ask for any tutoring service from me!

I was always the one that my peers looked toward for school help and study groups. Family and friends would also ask me to assist their children in school subjects ranging from 2nd grade to high school. I really enjoyed the feeling of helping others understand things they would otherwise write off and help them discover knowledge they did not believe they had.

I am in school working towards by Bachelor’s of Science in Ecology with a double minor in Biology and Chemistry. I have taken AP classes since high school and work as a lab assistant currently.

About the lesson

Understanding the student’s needs is first and foremost. I like to speak with the student to get to the root of the disconnect and work from there. I find it is more helpful to learn the student first and then teach the material versus forcing more material on them without fully understand how they best recieve information.

I have worked with students whose ages range from 7-17 and also college peers of ages 18-22.

I would advise the student to go with who they like. Although it sounds silly it is often a lot easier to learn from someone whom you enjoy speaking with and admire rather than a person you do not connect with.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Read through and write down all that you are not understanding in class. Although that may seem an overwhelming task I find it helpful to look at the assigned text or in class notes and on a scratch sheet of paper write down all the topics that are not making sense. Often times, one is correlated to another and if we can learn one together the rest will come with more ease.
