About Chandra

My name is Chandra, I'm a first year college student at Contra Costa College majoring in biology, and working towards transferring to UC Davis. I graduated from a college preparatory high school summa cum laude with a 4.5 weighted GPA. I don't have any formal tutoring experience, but I spent all four years of high school peer-editing papers for people in my grade, as well as guiding underclassmen through the essay writing process. I took AP Bio as a sophmore and have been in love with the subject ever since.

About the lesson

With essays, the process would depend on if the student needs help from the very beginning of writing the essay, or just editing and fine tuning drafts. If they need help from the start, I would walk them through the brainstorming, outlining, and drafting steps.

As for biology, I would first ask a few questions to get to know the student's learning style. I think that's part of what makes tutoring so different from learning in the classroom- there's an opportunity to cater the lessons specifically to the one student's needs. If the student is unsure of how they learn best, we could try a few different things until we find what works. For example, we could incorporate more diagrams, verbal explanations, or step-by-step demonstrations, depending on the student's preference.
