About Timothy

Hi, I'm Tim! I studied Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics at UCLA (GPA 3.844), and I have worked in a variety of research labs for a number of years, including HIV, blood stem cell, artery/vein labs. I enjoy tutoring in biology and math since we can discuss both the fine details and big-picture concepts that describe how life came to exist. My top priority is for you to be confident and successful in your class (as well as outside of class). I'm looking forward to meeting you!

I was motivated to become a tutor from my curiosity of how the world works and my passion for improvement. Growing up, I wanted to become a scientist and learn the basic properties of life, so I could understand how we function as people and push myself towards success. I excelled in mathematics and biology. I took AP Calculus BC and scored a 5, and I received an award for the top mathematics student in high school. I also took AP Biology and also scored a 5. At UCLA, I studied Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics (with a GPA of 3.84), and I am a contributing author for a research paper on human blood stem cells that was published in a top science magazine (Nature). However, as I progressed through my degrees, I began to critically think about the information I was learning; I was not only focused on its contents but how it was portrayed to me, how I interpreted it, and how I used it. It was from this introspective process that I began to think of ways to improve teaching and tutoring for students to make the information more useful and applicable to everyday life. My focus and passion evolved to optimizing how we teach information to students, where I am currently starting up a scientific video company to accomplish this feat.

I started my experience working as a tutor in high school. As a senior, I volunteered to grade homework for the underclassmen. It was a great opportunity to get to know them and provide feedback on their work. In college, I spent my last two years working as a resident assistant. In this role, I advised, helped, and reviewed work for the students I watched over. I gave feedback on previous classes I took, and I gave recommendations for the best professors. I also helped students solve problems and gave helpful advice on essays. Currently, I am starting up a scientific video company. I aim to produce television-quality videos where an overarching plot point is a scientific idea or discovery. My goal is to better engage and inform the public of how information can shape and better our lives. I look forward to getting to know you!
