About Janet

I am a retired Math and Science teacher, and have been tutoring for 5 years. I have excellent results in uplifting attitudes of the students along with improving grades. I have worked with students from Grade 1 through Grade 12. As a teacher, my students did well on State Testing. I focus on compassion, confidence and letting the child believe that he can achieve.

Mission

I love working one on one with the students and see their eyes light up when they get a problem correct! It is amazing. I love when they want to show me their grades! Children ultimately want to achieve, they just need to clear the learning blocks that prevent progress. I can help them do that.

I always wanted to be a teacher as a young child. I knew when I was in High School that that would be my calling, especially after some of teachers at the time thought I would be good at it. I followed their advice and entered college to study Elementary Education.

I was a certified teacher in Elementary Education for 20 years, with a Masters in Liberal Studies. I have tutored for 5 years. I have taught from Kindergarten Repeaters, Special Ed 1-3rd grade, 4th grade, 5th grade, 6th grade, 7th and 8th grade. I have worked with students on all learning levels.

About the lesson

I have the student take an evaluation so that I can see where there is help needed. I also look at what is going on in the classroom. I talk to the child about where he/she feels that there is help needed. I talk to the parents and look at papers that the child has turned in. Once I find out where the student needs help, I tailor a program to fit that partiular student's needs.

I have worked with Special Education Students from K-3. I have worked with children from the Central City mostly, but lately I am working with a lot of children who have immigrated from other countries, along with students born in the United States. I have been trained in Central City Ministries in Toledo, Ohio, which focuses on the inherant beauty of the individual child.

I am happy that the Hispanic immigrant children will be reunited with their parents. This brings me joy!
