About Roger

I teach stage acting and playwriting to children, teenagers, and adults.

I graduated with a BA in Theatre from UCLA, where I performed in plays and musicals, and where I won four playwriting awards (Elsie Mae Beimfohr Memorial Award twice, Bruin Playwriting Award, and Bruin Kids Playwriting Award). I then founded an improvisational improvisational comedy group that performed throughtout Los Angeles called, Laughrodisiacs.

After, I earned my MFA in Musical Theatre from San Diego State University. I was awarded the Marion Ross Graduate Award to concurrently study Libretto and Lyric Writing in Hollywood, at the BMI Musical Theatre Writing Program.

At Balboa Park in San Diego, I interned at the Old Globe as a Dramaturg, and taught acting to children through the San Diego Junior Theatre Program.

I currently live in Tucson, AZ.

I really enjoy watching my students progress in their acting skills, while they also gain confidence, and love of craft. Teaching is my passion.

I began teaching while at UCLA of Theatre. As an Undergraduate student, I worked at the Bruin Kids Daycamp, where I taught Acting to children.

As a Graduate student at SDSU, I taught Acting to children through the San Diego Junior Theatre program. I also interned at the Old Globe Theater as a Dramaturg.

For twenty years, I also taught Multimedia and 3D Animation. I served as the Director of Multimedia for Platt College, and as an Adjunct Instructor at SDSU, Mesa College, ITT Technical Institute, and the Digital And Visual Effects School in Orlando, Florida.

I have performed in over thirty-three theatrical productions and musicals; from academic venues to community theatre venues to professional venues.

I earned a Bachelors degree in Theatre from UCLA, where I acted and directed, and had three of my plays mounted. While there, I also won four playwriting awards (Elsie Mae Beimfohr Memorial Award - twice, Bruin Playwriting Award, and Bruin Kids Writing Award).

I founded Laughrodisiacs, an Improvisational Comedy Troupe that performed in venues throughout Los Angeles.

Later, I earned a Masters in Fine Arts from San Diego State University, where I was awarded the Marion Ross Graduate Award to study Lyric and Libretto Writing at the Lehman Engal Musical Theatre Writing Program (now BMI Musical Theatre Writing Program).

At San Diego Balboa Park, I interned as a Dramaturg at the Old Globe. And, I taught Acting to Children through the San Diego Junior Theatre.

About the lesson

I begin by asking new students what their personal and professional goals are, what they have already done to meet those goals, what their strengths and weaknesses currently are, and what they hope to get from the training.

After this initial assessment, I have them select from a provided range of scripts to do a cold reading. From this, I start to determine the range of their elocution and reading comprehension, as well as their personality (introvert or extrovert; and current level of honesty).

From all of this, we agree upon the initial Types of Characters the students will practice, and then work toward auditioning for, and performing.

Children in Summer and Day Camps (YMCA Summer Camp, UCLA Bruin Kids Daycamp, City of Poway Recreation Leader, San Diego Junior Theatre, and the Boys and Girls Club of Greater San Diego).

Teenagers at Meadowbrook Middle School (At-Risk program).

University Students at UCLA (as a Resident Assistant and Mentor).

Adults in Improvisational Comedy classes (The Improv in LA, and in Laughrodisiacs, a comedy troupe I founded).

Adults in Multimedia programs at various post-secondary institutions, such as: Platt College, SDSU, Mesa College, ITT Technical Institute, and the D.A.V.E. School.

Details

Individual Theatre Acting lessons are $35/hr for 1 hour per week.

Group Improvisational Comedy Performance lessons are $30 for 2 hours per week.

Individual Playwriting lessons are $30/hr for 1 hour per week.

Individual 3D Scenic Design lessons are $35/hr for 1 hour per week.
