About David

I have been teaching for many years and have had very successful students who've won awards, placed well in competitions and gone on to prestigious school acting programs. I have studied with some of the most renowned acting teachers in NYC and LA and have absorbed the best of their techniques in my teaching.

I really enjoy working with young or inexperienced actors and helping them "get it", helping them start to see themselves as craftsmen and artists and how they can accomplish their dreams of being a performer. I want to show them how to work and how to have serious fun...

I have taught privately for years but 8-9 years ago my kids were getting involved in summer theater camp performances and I wanted to help them make their contributions shine. Then when they got into high school I started helping other young performers with their parts in school plays, musicals, and the yearly competitions. It's snowballed since then.

I studied at AMDA (American Musical and Dramatic Academy) many years ago and then kept up my performance studies with some of the most renowned teachers in New York City when I lived there for 20 years. Some of the teachers I studied with a that time were Larry Moss, Michael Howard, Winn Handiman, and David Craig, to name a few. I am constantly thinking about and refining my work.

About the lesson

I meet with a new student, online or in person, and we chat. I want to get to know the person first. Then we talk about desires for the future. Then we talk about experience in the past, if any. Then I have the student read a monologue or piece of text to see how they handle it and we discuss that. From there we talk about possibly working together, how I might be able to help the student attain their goals.

I mostly work with younger actors, from beginners to professional. I have also coached professional actors in NYC and Seattle, where I lived for 6-7 years in the 1990's.

Ask questions and be specific (and realistic) about what you'd like to accomplish with acting/performance study. It's not cheap to study a craft like this so you need to have something in mind you'd like to do with it. This could be local, community shows for your enjoyment, or going on to a college degree program, or moving to New York City or Los Angeles to pursue a professional life in the Theater, film, or TV.

I'm not sure what is meant by this... But I suppose I could say that helping my son get into the prestigious Northwestern University School of Communications on a full-ride scholarship could be an event I am fond of.

Yes. Normally I charge $85 for the first time meeting someone and $65 per hour after that. This is due to the first time often taking more than an hour to complete.
