About Sharon

I have a BFA in theatre production with a concentration in children’s theatre and directing. I have 30 years experience in teaching acting. I’m also a playwright, Director, private acting coach for stage and screen.

Seeing a dtudent’s confidence soar when they conquer their fears or master a skill.

Because I enjoy directing children, I felt it best to teach acting basics along with the play. Out of that, I developed several theatre education programs and a performing arts school. I found that I enjoyed teaching as much as directing.

About the lesson

I hold an informal interview to determine experience, goals and education. Then I start with a basic assignment for acting or writing. If a student wants to work on a problem area such as a soft voice or shyness, I hear the exercise to focus on that.

Gifted, special needs, children who wanted to participate in a fun activity and some who wanted a profession in the performing arts. I have also worked with all types of adults. Some were professionals about to audition and some were in community theatre.

Look at their years of experience. Are they organized? Do they keep appointments. Are their assignments logical. Are they listening to you about your needs and goals?

I am very proud to see some children I have taught go on to thrive in college or their high school theatre programs. I’m very proud of students who go on to get great roles.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Have a clear career path in mind. That can include school, college, and professional career. Write down your goals and discuss them in detail. Listen to the advice given. If you want to do musical theatre, you will have to take voice and dance lesson. Take that to heart.

Details

$25 an hour plus 1$ a mile for mileage outside of Dothan. I charge $120 for on going classes for a 6 week course.
