About Chris

I have the unique experience of working as both a professional actor and director, so I'm very aware of what it's like on both sides of the audition table. This gives me the ability to talk to students about what a director is thinking in a way that actors can understand.

I like being able to work with an actor one on one and really give them my full attention. This gives the both of us to craft a piece that really demonstrates what the actor can bring to a production. There's no better feeling than going into an audition knowing you've worked on the material you're auditioning with and having the confidence to make those bold choices.

Originally, I got into coaching simply through the actors I directed before. Many actors who have worked with me feel a sense of trust and comfort and so after working with me on a production, they would ask me to coach them on audition materials for what they had upcoming. I found that I really enjoyed the one on one interaction of coaching and have been pursuing it ever since.

I've received my MFA in Directing from the Actors Studio Drama School, which is routinely voted one of the top programs in the country. What's unique about my training is that I was required to train as both actor and director. It was an integral part of my education to never lose sight of what the exprience is like for an actor. In addition, I've continued my education working with Bob Krakower. Bob is one of the top acting instructors for film working in the industry today. Of course, all of that in is conjunction with the real world training I get from being a working member of the Actors Equity Association.

About the lesson

Working with a new coach can always be a little nerve racking. Usually I like to do the first session free, because if you don't feel I'm the right fit then it's not fair to make you pay money for that. If there's something specific you want to work on, bring it in. If not, I'll start with something in your wheelhouse just to get a sense of your style and personality. After that, I can try and bring things in for you to try in addition to anything you want to bring in. Coaching is very much a partnership. Your successes are my successes.

I've worked with a number of students in varying age and experience. Every actor is different, with unique skills and individual goals. So, there's no one method I have for all students. I try to craft the way I work around the student.

This is a personal relationship. Obviously, it's a professional one as well. But it becomes personal when you're asking someone to view your mistakes and try things that may not work. You have to be able to open and vulnerable. So you have to find someone that you feel safe and comfortable with. That's when you have the confidence to put forth your best work.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Know what your looking to get out of a coach. Are you looking to improve your auditions? Do you want to just keep yourself from getting rusty? Are you looking to expand yourself into something new? All of these are totally acceptable. But you need to know, so that they can better serve you.

Details

Right now, my going rate is $100 for an hour session. This hour includes working on whatever material you would like whether it be scenework, monologue, vocal warm-up, or script analysis. The price includes my services and a rented space.
