About Jed

It does not matter what your background and experience is. I will adapt and create a plan based on your needs and level of experience.

I also travel to the school or location of the student, in addition to offering online classes.

My biggest thrill in teaching is seeing the growth of the student from day one through the sharing and discovery of knowledge. The process never ends and should never end for the teacher themself.

The fact I am employed as an actor, director, and adjunct college professor, shows my commitment to the field of work.

My reason for going to graduate school was having the balance of being a working artist with my love and passion for teaching. The professors and doctors who taught me had exactly the type of background and achievements I wanted to achieve myself.

JedJed Alexander recently directed the Los Angeles premiere of Jonathan Holloway’s adaptation of Victor Hugo’s Les Miserables, produced by Planta Genista Productions, and will be directing a new play at the 2018 Hollywood Fringe Festival.

Other directing credits include the world premiere workshop production of Call This Number at Chapman University in Orange, CA. Produced by both Dr. Ed Day (Director, Earl Babbie Research Center) and Dr. Michelle Miller-Day (Director, Undergraduate Studies / Communication Studies), the piece explored in-depth the stories of the survivors of homicide victims.

In 2004, Jed and Robert Hankins (Artistic Manager, ACT Theatre in Seattle, WA) co-founded the award-winning Red Tape Theatre Company in Chicago, where they produce new and experimental works. The company is now in its 11th season, and a current resident company at Steppenwolf Theatre. During his time there, he directed a contemporary version of The Ransom Of Red Chief written by award-winning composer Brad Alexander and playwright Matt Foss, Neil LaBute’s Bash, co-wrote with Joe Kendall an updated, experimental version of Richard III called My Richard, and his own piece Click, which was produced under Red Tape’s Fresh Eyes Project.

Other theater credits include Rooster in the national tour of Annie (directed by original creator and lyricist Martin Charin), Hades in Hercules The Muse-ical (Disney Cruise Line), It’s The Housewives (written by Hope and Laurence Juber / L.A.), Theaterworks USA (NYC), Shakespeare Project Chicago, Chicago Dramatists, and received his MFA from Roosevelt University (Chicago) and BFA from Emerson College (Boston) under the guidance of Kristen Linklater and members of Shakespeare & Company, including Tony Simotes, Andrew Borthwick-Leslie, and Paula Langton.

Jed has been Spokesman for two award-winning commercial campaigns. He was National TV and Radio Spokesman for Rolling Rock Beer (Anheuser-Busch), where he played fictional VP of Marketing, Ron Stablehorn. The multi award-winning commercials called Moonvertising, Beer Ape, and Man Thong gave many the impression this was a real ad campaign, where in fact it was satirizing the ad industry. Appearances included The Tim Conway Jr. Show with Arsenio Hall, Indie Morning Drive, Opie & Anthony, and Sherman & Tingle; and was featured in The New York Times, NPR, NBC, and The Wall Street Journal. In the beginning stages of shooting, Jed was thrilled he had the chance to work with legendary Director of Photography and Academy Award winner, Robert Richardson (The Aviator, Hugo, Inglorious Basterds). The campaign was created by ad agency Goodby, Silverstein, & Partners and directed by Mike Maguire, Geordie Stephens, and Yogi Graham.

Jennifer Levy also cast Jed as Holiday Spokesman for mega-store Meijer, playing fictional character, Mr. Gifter. The award winning commercials were produced by Josh Beane and directed by Paul Murray, both of Band Digital, Inc. He was recently seen in Nickelodeon’s new hit show Henry Danger, and an ongoing campaign for Walgreens, called Summer Raccoons, where the family truck is being rummaged through by raccoons. Created by ad agency GSD&M and directed by Harry Cocciolo and Brumby Boylston.

Jed has done voiceover work for Netflix, EA Studios and Marvel, was a contributing writer for film critic Emanuel Levy, Top Story and Big News at both iO in Chicago and Los Angeles, taught at Emerson’s L.A. Program, and current faculty member at F.A.B.A. (For Actors By Actors) in Hollywood. He is a proud member of SAG-AFTRA, AEA, and AGVA and currently involved with new projects at NBC Universal, Campos Creative, and serves as adjunct faculty at AMDA (American Music and Dramatic Academy) Los Angeles.

-Short-term and long-term objectives

-Creating a plan based on the aforementioned

Age levels range from children to adults. Elementary to college / university level.

Come in with an open mind, be prepared, and know why you want to take classes in this field.

Teaching college level dance majors who have never performed in musical theater before. This was a performance based course which culminated in a group demo with both ensemble and solo numbers.
