About Timothy

English subjects allow students to explore the world around them, gain integral skills, and let their imagination loose. I believe that any student can achieve excellence in each of these fields (regardless of their reading or writing capabilities).

The problem with English subjects for most students is non-comprehensive, non-cohesive teaching. Many English educators "overspecialize" in their teaching. Perhaps one educator places great emphasis on teaching writing skills, while another ignores writing and instead focuses on literary analysis. This can leave students with skill gaps that become disdain for English subjects as they get older.

My approach to the English subjects is comprehensive and cohesive. By evaluating my students' proficiency in every English subject skill, I am able to remedy skill gaps and foster further excellence in skill strengths. By using a variety of teaching methods and resources, I help prepare my students to enter any kind of English learning environment. Finally, through personalized attention and care, I help students foster a love for learning, challenging themselves, and exploring their potential.

I enjoy helping students unlock their greatest potential and understand the incredible power of the English subjects. Fostering a tenacity for learning and growth inspires me and motivates me to do better every day. To see a student go from disinterested to passionate is my greatest achievement.

I have been tutoring through various organizations for over seven years now. During this time, I have won a number of awards for my academic merit in English subjects, like the South Dakota Academic Excellence award (given to the top 1% of students in the state).

As a student at Cornell University, I receive some of the best education in the world. I am constantly learning how to improve my teaching from both watching my professors teach and from the classes themselves. I incorporate all of this into my tutoring.

About the lesson

Getting to know the student, their needs, and their strengths/weaknesses is a crucial first step. After this, goals can be set, and I can begin to create a personalized learning plan for the student. These plans are flexible and designed to change with the needs of the student.

From honors students to learning-disabled, I have worked with a variety of students. My students are typically middle or high school-aged and come from all backgrounds.
