About Lydia

I love watching actors make new discoveries about their characters—and themselves—as we work together.

Acting coaching has grown out of my involvment with theatre as an actor and director. In previous jobs I've done staff workshops, supervisory training in a corporation, and more recently, workshops for secondary and university level faculty.

I have an MA in education, but my training as an acting coach as come from working the boards for 40 years. I've performed in a variety of work, with different companies both paid and unpaid on stages around WV. In addition I have been an adjudicator for theatre festivals. I also direct community theatre shows on occasion and serve as acting coach for High School Thespian Troupes in Harrison County.

About the lesson

The student must have a goal in mind—monologues, articulation & diction, character development, emotional expression, physicality, etc. Once their objective is clear, we work toward that and see what else emerges in the process.

With scene pairs the same applies.

Most of my work has been with high school and adults, though I have worked with a couple of younger actors.

Look for a coach/teacher you respect and who in turn gives you respect. Be open and willing to experiment. Be willing to accept criticism and make changes. Be serious about working at the craft of acting.

Watching the two high school Thespian Troupes for which I served as coach win the top spots at the State Thespian Festival has to top that list. One of those plays was selected to represent the state at the International Thespian Festival. The players I coached in those casts also won acting awards as well.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Ask yourself, Am I willing to work on my acting skills between lessons? Even if I don't have a play to be in? Understand that you coach will guide you, but you have to do the work.
