About Dillon

I have been a professional actor for almost ten years, working in the theatrical, commercial, TV/Film worlds. I have acted on Chicago PD, Empire, and 20/20; been in national commercials for Southwest Airlines and Humira; and acted on Chicago stages across the city. I am professionally trained in the Meisner Technique and have studied with some of the best directors/teachers in the country. I offer monologue coaching, scene work help, lessons on the fundamentals, audition prep, business advice (navigating the scene), an introduction to contemporary and classical works, and can help you connect to the material so that it feels alive and spontaneous.

I love digging into the text and finding the real moments of what's going on. Similarly, we are all different, unique and special, thusly the way that I would play a role is not the way that someone else would, and I very much enjoy helping actors bring themselves to their work and feel rewarded.

ALSO ACTING IS FUN! Even dramatic acting. You are learning to live truthfully in imaginary circumstances and the possibilities are endless!

I started by helping friends/peers prepare for auditions. I realized how fulfilling it was to help someone else untap their full potential. I have been teaching for almost three years privately.

I am professionally trained in the Meisner Technique, participated in workshops about Viewpoints, and am familiar with what people call "method acting." I have worked on classical texts from Shakespeare to Chekhov, and helped premiere new plays all over Chicago.

I audition regularly myself and am working as often as I can. I feel it is important to have teachers that are still in the game and have an understanding of the current landscape.

About the lesson

I start by introducing myself and getting to know them as well. Opening up a safe dialogue about the industry, and any questions that they may have coming in about the work, I am always happy to answer.

Once there is a level of trust we can begin to honestly work towards your goals.

All ages, all types. Mostly those who are pursuing acting as a professional career. I haven't had many students who didn't want to be an actor.

First and foremost, a level of comfort and trust. All true art rests on trust, when people feel safest and confident --they do their best work. I always tell my students about my career, offer them opportunities to ask me any questions, and additionally try to get know a little bit about my students, nothing wild or personal, but simply to get an idea of what it is they are working towards and then help them reach that goal. There is a lot of "Pay to Play" in the industry and my intentions are to help you genuinely grow as an artist. Find the teachers who want the same things for you and have the ability/experience to share with you.

I recently saw "Foxfinder" by Interrobang Productions at the Athenaeum. I loved the story telling, it was so honest and unaware of the audience. It was the type of play where questions are left unanswered from scene to scene and as audience member all their is to do but watch, guess, and squirm. The acting was magnificently nuanced and never once did I know what was going to happen next--which is a lot like life and makes for good theater.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out

Details

My starting rate is $30-40/hr. New students may purchase a package, where discounted rates may be offered. My one rule: is that you leave feeling more confident about yourself and the work, and we don't stop until we get there. When we are training you have my full undivided attention and the lesson can go where ever you want it to.
