About Kathleen

As a trained actor in both classical and contemporary performance, I have the experience to teach the fundamentals of acting to beginners and coach seasoned professionals.

I love helping my acting students grow as people as I help them fill the shoes of the characters they play.

I began teaching the fundamentals of acting to school-aged children when I was still studying theater in college.

I studied at George Mason University and graduated with a B.F.A in Theater with concentrations in bot performance (acting and directing) as well as playwriting/screenwriting and dramaturgy. Following graduation I worked as an actor in the D.C. area, and now I focus my artistic energy on directing.

Having studied and worked as an actor, I teach the art of performance from the actor's perspective. And now as a director, I know what directors/casting directors look for from actors during auditions and I teach that to my students.

About the lesson

When working with new students the first thing I need to know is what their artistic goals are. (E.g. Are you rehearsing for an upcoming audition? Trying to develop your process? Or are you trying to delve into something new, such as classical text?)

The next topic I delve into is a student's experience. It doesn't matter if a student has been acting for 10 years or has no experience at all. Yet having this conversation gives me an idea of how to coach a new student.

I have worked with students as young as eight years old, and professional actors in their sixties, or older. I have worked with both beginners and professionals.
