About Paul

I bring empathy, patience and a customized plan, along with humor and 50 years of acting and theater experience to get noticeable results in a short time.

I have served in almost every capacity in theater, including Production Manager (Beaverton Civic Theater) and Artistic Director (six years at HART Theatre in Hillsboro).

Seeing the joy that comes from discovery, of aspects of yourself, or the piece/character you're rehearsing. Sometimes it results in a growth in confidence, which is quite gratifying.

The satisfaction and reward of passing along what expertise I have to others.

Over the years, actors have come to me for instruction and coaching. I have always considered myself a teacher; in every show that I direct, I teach as I go.

BA in Theatre from San Diego State

50 years of experience - acting, directing, producing, running a community theater.

I have excellent diction, pronunciation and overall language skills, can do many accents, and I pay attention to details that can make a huge difference.

About the lesson

I'm a very intuitive, instinctive instructor and coach. The first thing to do is discuss the goal(s), whether there is an auditon piece chosen, and if there are exercises or theory to put in place first. Every student is different, requiring adjustments and modifications which I think about as we talk.

I can suggest or assign monologues, we can do a scene that requires interaction and reactions, (I am able to "multi-track" in that regard - I have directed myself on occasion).

We work together on obtaining the desired results. I listen, comment, we do it again, and so on until we both are happy.

All ages and experience levels.

Meet with your prospective instructor(s) before agreeing to anything. Having a rapport with each other; some sense of connection, is of utmost importance. You won't learn if you don't trust.

I have co-founded two companies, one of which is now LOOP, (Light Opera of Portland). This is not recent, but I am very proud of it.

The other company is more recent, in its second year. Theatre in the 'hood ((concealed information)

is a project designed to bring performance of all kinds to non-traditional and alternative spaces in our communities. Clubhouses, backyards, driveways and the old City Hall building in Beaverton have all served as our venues.

My wife and I saw a very experimental production of the Beauty and the Beast story, called Beastly. All movement, no dialogue. Very moving.
