About James

I love helping students, and more importantly, have a fantastic record of over 20 years tutoring, as well as 19 full years of test-prep excellence.

I was one of the most highly-requested tutors at Kaplan Test Prep, where I tutored for 16 1/2 years. I now enjoy helping students with my own business, and continue to hear great success tories.

The SAT, ISEE, SSAT, ACT, etc. are all standardized tests, so they are PREDICTABLE. Showing students the strategies and how to 'beat the test', then seeing them actually DO that when they apply my methods, brings me so much satisfaction!

I tell my students that the tests are a 'game' of sorts. I just give them the tools to win the game.

I always loved getting to know students individually. I tutored my fellow students in high school and at Fordham University, then continued since then.

I also was an ESL teacher in 2006 in Christchurch, New Zealand, where I married my wife of 14 years, Jen.

I have a degree in Business, along with 26 years of tutoring and some professional teaching.

About the lesson

The more I know about a student, the better, so I always like to have an official report or practice test report. If not, I provide the practice test and scoring.

I then diagnose the student's individual needs, and create a customized program. On the way, of course, I adapt the lesson plans as needed as students make progress.

All types! I work well with both the struggling student who needs help in fundamentals, as well as with the motivated, 'Type A' type who wants to get into a fantastic school.

I also enjoy helping the kinesthetic, auditory, and visual learners.
