About Alexander
I am looking for new parttime teaching or tutoring opportunities whilst I complete my Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). I am a passionate person who has spent the last 10 years of my life working in the non-profit sector as an environmental educator and programme manager, striving to improve environmental conditions and levels of environmental literacy in township schools. My environmental education programmes included extensive environmental awareness campaigns, environmental clubs, organic vegetable gardens, and ‘eco’ training for school staff. For about five years before that I worked in wildlife research and urban wildlife management. This year I have decided to get into school-based teaching. I have enrolled for a parttime PGCE and I am excelling at the course. My knowledge set and work experience perfectly suits teaching the Natural Science and Social Science subject areas. I have an extensive knowledge on environmental topics and areas which goes far beyond the curriculum.

As a tutor I incorporate lots of active learning and practical demonstrations into my classes. I am aware of my students’ abilities and work within their limits. I always aim to make a difference in my learners’ understanding by applying teaching techniques which gradually improve knowledge and confidence. My enthusiasm and deep understanding of scientific, natural, and historical processes will impact on the learners.
I have an inquisitive, enthusiastic, but patient demeanour and really enjoy imparting knowledge. For over six years I have been supplementing my income by tutoring late afternoons and evenings. Over this period, I have worked for three families as a private tutor all with children at primary school level, and who had learning disabilities such as ADHD. This has subsequently given me good exposure to the entire CAPS curriculum and syllabus from grade 4 to grade 7.
