About Daniel
I was born in Hong Kong and started learning the euphonium at the age of 12. At university, I studied euphonium under Ben Pelletier, of the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong. Most of Dan’s experience so far is as a wind band player and he has played with several of these in Hong Kong. He was principal euphonium with the Hong Kong Baptist University Wind Symphony and bass trombonist with the Hong Kong Baptist University Symphony Orchestra. He was the principal euphonium player of Hong Kong Youth Symphonic Band and also of Hong Kong Cantabile Winds, as well as appearing with many other wind bands as a guest player. For the performance experience, in 2013, I participated in a tour of the Hong Kong Youth Symphonic Band to Jeju International Wind Ensemble Festival. As a dedicated young performer, I have taken part in many competitions and festivals. This includes the SliderAsia Music Festival 2017, Eurocuivres Asia 2018, and the 2019 Taiwan Tuba and Euphonium Festival, Jeju Brass competition 2020. Recently, I was chosen to give a solo performance for the reunite festival at RNCM. Alongside playing, I am also an up-and-coming conductor in Hong Kong and studied this field under Mr. Choi Hoi Man, gaining practical experience as conductor of Hong Kong Cantabile Winds. Following my graduation from the Hong Kong Baptist University, I have chosen to come to the UK to study euphonium at the Royal Northern College of Music under David Thornton and Steven Mead. For the teaching experience, I have taught for 7 years in different schools and music centres in Hong Kong like quin music. I have also taught as a private brass tutor for any level like French horns, euphonium, trombone, and so on. Apart from instrumental teaching, I also taught music theory from grade 1 to grade 8 for many years. I have taken a pedagogy course at RNCM and started the placement for 4 months in ONE Education so that I can understand the difficulties of every student and provide an appropriate practice guide for them to build up their playing skill. For the online teaching experience, I used to teach online on Zoom and Facetime with my students during the covid pandemic. Moreover, I have a set of professional equipment like microphones, and an audio interface for the online teaching so that the student can listen to my real sound and learn detailedly from me.

My teaching philosophy is to let the pupils explore more themselves and encourage pupils to try more so that they can develop their own characteristics and style instead of just copying and following the instruction. In the lesson, I can stimulate your creativity and improve your musicality through different skills and activities like Dalcroze exercises, improvisation exercises. Apart from that, I will set up a learning plan for each pupil so that they can speed up the learning process systematically and efficiently. In the theory lesson (~30 hours), we'll cover: -all the exam syllabus -theory exercise -mock test
