About Rachel

I completed my undergraduate degree in forensic-psychology and criminology in 2013. From there I started my PGDE train to become a teacher focusing on teaching maths, English and life skills.

In 2014 I got a job in a large city centre college and worked my way from teaching maths to apprentices to running the maths department for 7 years, but still teaching GCSE maths alongside. I have a large amount of experience teaching those that dislike maths and struggle with base concepts and would like to achieve a grade 4 or 5 on a foundation maths paper to progress their studies/ career.

Aside from my academic and teaching background I am currently learning python programming myself to develop a new skill set. I enjoy running and netball and love nothing more than taking my three dogs on muddy walks!

About the lesson

I provide targeted support to achieve a grade 4 or 5on a foundation GCSE maths paper.
Initially I will ensure I find out starting points, this could be from an assessment at school or college or my own intimate assessment.
This will allow me to highlight key topics that need to be covered rather than covering every topic.
Building block and fundamental knowledge will be a focus through to ensure constantly building on key skills.

I utilise methods that support in visual learning of mathematical concepts when needed.

Happy to teach online through zoom or face to face at an arranged location.Any materials and examples shown on the whiteboard through zoom will be saved and provided at the end of the session. For face to face sessions all notes and examples will be provided.

A key focus on breaking down exam questions and problem solving will be a focus to ensure that preparation has been put in place for mock and real GCSEs.

I’m have taught functional and GCSE maths for the last 10 years and led a maths department in a large city centre college for 7 years.
