About Faviola

¡Hola!, my name is Faviola, and I’m from Lima, Peru. I now live in a small, remote village in the interior of Alaska with my husband, our son, and our dog.

I have extensive experience teaching Spanish to children and adults from around the world. My passion for teaching began while working at a Montessori school, where I discovered how much students can learn when they actively participate, ask questions, practice speaking, and connect language to everyday situations.

My academic background is in Social Sciences, with a focus on Economics and Development. I have always been interested in languages and in the way people learn and communicate across cultures. As a language learner myself, I know what it feels like to be a beginner and to gradually build confidence in a new language. This experience has influenced the way I teach and the importance I place on giving students plenty of opportunities to speak and participate.

I also have personal experience with multilingual language learning through raising my son in a multilingual environment. These experiences have given me a deeper understanding of language acquisition and have shaped the way I approach teaching Spanish.

About the lesson

¡Bienvenidos!

My teaching approach is based on immersion. I help students develop an intuitive understanding of Spanish through listening, speaking, repetition, and meaningful use of the language. Conversation is an important part of my lessons at every level. I dedicate part of each class to speaking with my students and adapt the conversation and questions to their level, so even beginners can begin using Spanish from the first lessons.

I believe that learning is more engaging when students can connect the language to topics and activities that interest them. For this reason, I incorporate their interests into our lessons and create opportunities for them to use Spanish in meaningful contexts.

For children, my lessons are highly visual and interactive. I use image-based flashcards, stories, songs, games, gestures, and other activities to create an immersive environment where children can feel confident, curious, and excited to learn!
