About Emma
Hi! I'm Emma, a journalist and editor with a decade of experience working in local and national newsrooms. Let's take a look back ...
High school Emma: I grew up in Delaware, and I've always loved to write. I got a perfect score on the writing portion of the SAT (RIP) — and far from perfect on the math section.
College Emma: I studied creative witing and journalism at Washington College, where I became the Editor in Chief of the college paper and worked a handful of magazine internships.
20s Emma: My first full-time journalism job was editing at Charlotte magazine in North Carolina. I worked my way up to the top seat in a year and became the youngest city magazine editor in the country.
Emma today: I work for the national media organization Axios where I lead 30 Local newsrooms across the country. I love my job, and I love that I get to write and edit for a living. I hope to share that love with you!

What inspires you? That's the best place to start before starting any writing assignment. Once we capture this, the words will flow.
How it works:
- I start a lesson getting to know you, what assignments you're working on and what inspires you.
- I'll read existing work to get a feel for your writing style and make suggestions.
- We'll do creativity exercises and brainstorm for your projects.
- I'll edit your work so you can get immediate feedback.
Best for:
- High school students needing help on their college essays or other writing assignments.
- Students interesting in going into a field like journalism.
- College students wanting help through those pesky English pre-reqs.
- Professionals and entrepreneurs who need help with the copy on their website.
