I am an experienced design lecturer with a BFA in fine art as well as an MFA in theatre design and production. I am also a qualified teacher with experience in both high school and tertiary education.

About Catherine
I have a BFA specializing in graphics/print -making as well as a teaching diploma from Rhodes University. After graduating I became involved in theatre design and spent a number of years working largely in community development theatre. This lead me to pursue an MFA in theatre design and Production which I completed at Tulane University in the USA. I have since spent a number of years working in various design roles for theatre and television in both America and South Africa. I have won multiple SAFTA awards for my production design work. I have also taught grade 10-12 design and art. For the last couple of years have been lecturing design full time at a well recognized private tertiary institution. I have many years experience both in teaching and in a variety of art and design techniques. These include (not limited to) art and design theory, drawing and illustration, painting, textile design, print making, mask making, costume and set design and model making.

I base my approach to teaching on the needs and skill level of my students. I work with beginners as well as more advanced students. Knowledge of the basic elements and principles of design are essential tools for any artist to help master their craft. I believe that through guidance, encouragement and practice anyone can create beautiful and meaningful work. I enjoy sharing my knowledge of various arts techniques and helping students to build their artistic skills and confidence.
