About Spencer
In July 2024, I will defend my dissertation and earn my PhD in English with a specialization in Rhetoric and Writing Studies. Additionally, I have served as an Assistant Director of Technical Writing and Communication at the college level, where I built curriculum that focused on helping students write articulate essays, papers, and proposals for a variety of genres (including argumentative, persuasive, and expository essays; grant proposals; instruction sets; and job application materials). I have six years of teaching experience at the college level.

My lesson plans consist of working directly with a student to improve their writing. Generally, a student brings an essay that they are working on, and we work together to improve the structure and delivery. Through a process of guided editing of their own work, students learn to identify issues and avoid them in the future.
If a student has an upcoming project, I will work with them to create a comprehensive outline that consists of 1) active and direct topic sentences, 2) supporting evidence and appropriate citations, 3) clear analysis of that evidence, and 4) clear transitions. Students learn that building a great essay is a process of creation and revision.
As a PhD-level instructor, I have a wide range of students, ranging from concurrent to college upper-classmen. Additionally, I have worked as an editor for graduate-level writing. I specialize in teaching students to write articulate essays with the audience in mind. Regardless of your level, I can help you write clear, engaging, and compelling essays.
