Tutoring is different from teaching in a classroom situation. It's important to guage accurately the starting point of the concepts to be covered. The subject will have been taught before and it's important to initially know where misunderstandings have occurred. Sometimes it necessary to teach it from a different angle. Sometimes just practice to gain confidence. Sometimes it's giving further background knowledge which for some reason has been missed. Above all is that the student must gain confidence as usually it is a lack of confidence which is the root of a lot of difficulties.
