About Rosa Maria
Hi! I’m Rosa, a friendly and enthusiastic Biology and Environmental Science tutor with a BSc in Biology and an MSc in Global Conservation Science from the University of Leeds.
I have 2 years of tutoring experience, supporting students studying GCSE and A-level Biology and Environmental Science across AQA, OCR and Edexcel exam boards. I also have a TEFL teaching qualification and extensive experience working with children and young people. Before tutoring, I taught Theatre Arts to children for five years, ran creative workshops such as crochet, and worked at a community centre with children and families.
My approach is student-centred, flexible and encouraging. I start by identifying the areas a student finds difficult and then work through them together at a pace that feels comfortable and manageable. I use a variety of resources depending on what works best for each student, including interactive whiteboards, videos, games, activities, diagrams, discussion and past-paper questions.
I believe students learn best when they are actively involved in the process. Rather than simply giving students the answers, I encourage them to explore topics, ask questions and take ownership of their learning, while providing clear explanations and support when they need it.
For exam preparation, I can help students build confidence with past papers, exam technique, mark schemes and applying their knowledge to unfamiliar questions. My aim is not just to help students learn the content, but to help them understand it, feel more confident and become more independent learners.
Outside of tutoring, I’m passionate about travel, nature, conservation and adventure. I currently travel full-time while tutoring and teaching Biology and English online, which gives me plenty of opportunities to bring real-world experiences and examples into my lessons.
What my students say:
“Rosa worked with both my daughters during their A levels, and her support made a real difference to each of them. I really appreciated how Rosa encouraged them to take responsibility for their own learning. She communicated directly with them to arrange online sessions and to check in about what they wanted to focus on, which helped them feel more ownership and confidence. She paced the sessions in a way that matched what they needed, including adding extra sessions before exams to go through papers and strengthen their approach. She is genuinely student-centred, and the results showed how well she pitched the support. Both girls felt far more confident in their knowledge and in how to tackle their exams. I would highly recommend Rosa to any parents looking for a tutor who is truly invested in helping their young person to succeed.”
— Bairbre, Parent
“The sessions are so well planned and being online really suited me — especially with her use of an interactive whiteboard. I always felt comfortable asking questions and clarifying things whenever I wasn’t sure. I would highly recommend Rosa to anyone looking for a tutor who is organised, supportive and genuinely interested in helping you learn.”
— Roisin, A-level Environmental Science student

My lessons are friendly, engaging and tailored to each student’s goals, learning style and confidence level. I believe the best learning happens when students feel comfortable asking questions, exploring ideas and understanding why something works — rather than simply memorising information.
I use a combination of clear explanations, real-world examples, activities, discussion and past-paper practice to make lessons practical and relevant. I encourage students to take an active role in exploring topics, while providing guidance and support whenever they need it.
For students preparing for exams, we can work through past papers, exam technique, mark schemes and common mistakes to build both knowledge and confidence. I can also help break down difficult or overwhelming topics into manageable steps, so students leave lessons feeling clearer and more confident.
Every lesson is adapted to the individual student. Whether you need help understanding a challenging topic, want to improve your exam technique, or simply need a confidence boost, we can work together to find an approach that works for you.
My aim is for students to leave each lesson feeling that they’ve genuinely understood something — and feeling more confident about tackling it independently.
