About Astara
My career spans half a decade on four continents. At 22, I have traveled to more than 50 countries. Committed to life-long learning, I hold an Honours Bachelor of Journalism with a minor in Political Science.
I recently came back from Nepal, where she worked for Sana Kisan Bikas Bank Ltd. in Kathmandu. There, I produced short videos and a strategic communications plan focused on female empowerment for the bank, which loans whole-sale credit to 900 cooperatives across Nepal.
I am currently pursuing a master’s degree in Globalization at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. My research explores the viability of an international strategy for climate-induced displacement. I am concurrently a Teaching Assistant for the course “Women in Islamic Civilization,” a Graduate Research Associate doing impact assessments for the John Howard Society and a Childhood Educator at an after-school program.
My unwavering will to succeed in all the endeavors I set out to do have enabled me to do research on the power of social media in Eastern Africa, work as an au pair in Italy, coordinate uplifting events for children with cancer in the Philippines, and produce nuanced reporting on Indigenous communities in the Yukon Territories and British Columbia, Canada.
My passion is promoting sustainable and holistic development through financial literacy and horizontal conversations. Having planned international conferences, activities for marginalized youth, and events focused on defeating community apathy on the subject of climate change, the message I hope to leave with all those who meet me is one of gratitude, empowerment, and determination.
With over three years of experience in producing videos, podcasts, multimedia texts, feature articles, and research, she is always happy to produce promotional videos for businesses and non-profits. I have worked with Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Audition, Audacity, Lightroom, Pixlr, WordPress, Timeline JS, as well as social media platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter, and Instagram.
Overall, I am an extremely driven and curious individual, who is always ready for the next adventure and equipped with street smarts gathered from a lifetime of travel.
