About Hsiang Yu
My name is Hsiang Yu Chou. You are welcome to call me by my Christian name, Justine. I am a Mandarin Chinese native speaker, and I currently live in the USA with my husband.
I was born and raised in Taiwan, where our traditional Chinese culture, characters, and classic literary culture has been preserved.
I have a masters degree in International relationships. Furthermore, I have had a fascinating journey in life so far. I have worked for Congressmen for 20 years. I've had several other jobs, such as an instructor in college, a journalist, and a freelance writer. In 2012, I went to China to start a new career. I ended up as a manager of many shopping malls. Through this job, I have been to many cities in China and have been experienced different Chinese subcultures. I enjoyed it very much!
Some people say to learn new languages, especially to learn Mandarin Chinese is complicated and tough. I agree because I have been there! I studied Japanese, Spanish, and Russian when I was in college. And I've invested a lot of time and resources into learning how to speak like an English native speaker when I first came to America.
Learning another foreign language can be challenging. If you have seen the supposed "hacks" in videos for Mandarin Chinese learning and none of them worked for you. Or it took you hours of study, but when you talk to Chinese native speakers, you're stumbling still. I can help!
If you want to speak Mandarin Chinese well, you also have to learn Chinese culture, history, and present-day Chinese society. That is exactly what I can teach you with my rich life experiences.
Qualifications & Experience:
I am certified in Teaching Chinese( PRAXIS).
I am experienced in helping students for job interviews, essays, business contracts, etc.
Teaching Approach:
Tell me about yourself first. I would love to know your motivation. You might think it isn't essential, but if you don't have a good reason to learn a language, you are less likely to stay motivated over the long-run.
Secondly, I will design a fun, exciting, and a relaxed learning plan to meet your needs. What would you like to learn the most? Conversational for daily life or traveling or for business? Maybe you are a beginner; we can get started from Pinyin or Zhuyin.
Lastly, I will prepare all the materials, textbooks, practice books for you. FYI, doing homework is required.
