About Michael
My path to academic success has been anything but traditional. I began my career in the culinary field, earning degrees and working as a chef before transitioning into formal academics. When I entered community college, I faced real challenges, especially in writing and core academic skills. Through persistence and by working closely with tutors, I learned how to overcome those difficulties and completely transform my performance.
I went on to transfer from North Lake College to The University of Texas at Austin, and later earned a master’s degree with a 3.98 GPA from The University of Texas at Dallas, where I was inducted into Pi Alpha Alpha. Along the way, I also earned certifications in medical coding and billing and built years of experience in operations management and leadership.
Because I used to struggle academically I understand what it feels like to be in your position. I know the frustration of struggling, the effort it takes to improve, and the value of having the right support. I owe some of my turnaround to the writing center tutors at North Lake College that helped me overcome. Those experiences shape how I approach tutoring—I bring both personal understanding and a broad professional background to help students grow academically and beyond.

My academic success is built on overcoming real challenges. I have dyslexia and ADHD, and I know what it feels like to struggle and fall behind. I began at North Lake College, where I was initially failing—especially in writing. By learning how to understand expectations and approach assignments strategically, I quickly transformed my performance to A-level work across subjects, including biology and math, with my lowest grade being a B+ in college-level math. I later transferred to The University of Texas at Austin and went on to earn a 3.98 graduate GPA and induction into Pi Alpha Alpha.
