About Jessica
Hello everyone,
My name is Jessica, I am currently a PhD Researcher and Visiting Lecturer at City, University of London.
I have extensive experience teaching students of all different ages and abilities ranging from primary and secondary school to university. What I have learnt from teaching and from being a student myself, is that each individual requires a unique approach to learning. I am enthusiastic and passionate about helping students to get the best out of their education and to discover what works for them by offering a range of different teaching methods and approaches. My teaching style is always student-centred and supportive focusing on the development of learning strategies and techniques which students can then continue to develop throughout the course of their education. For example, with essay writing, exam preparation and high-level learning. I offer students a range of different sessions depending on their needs and often incorporate teaching aids and technology to ensure that learning remains interesting (and even fun!).
I hold an Introductory Certificate in Academic Practice: ‘Learning, Teaching and Assessment’ module and I'm also an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA). I have won two scholarship awards based on academic merit for both my MA and PhD and I am currently a seminar leader for two core undergraduate (first and second year) modules in the Department of Sociology. My current responsibilities include teaching (classes approx. 30), module creation, material development and preparation, examination material creation, marking of assessments, pastoral duties. I have also continually received excellent student and reviewer feedback through student satisfaction surveys and face-to-face.
