About Cortney
I am an American educator with 9 years of classroom teaching experience, most of which has been internationally. My most recent role was teaching GCSE curriculum in Science and Maths in Germany for an international school. Specifically, I taught IGCSE Coordinated Science (KS4 Biology, Physics and Chemistry), KS3 maths and science, IB PYP Unit of Inquiry (KS2) and IB ESS (A Level).
I also have four years experience teaching middle school (KS3) science in Colorado, USA, two years teaching high school Chemistry (KS3) and AP Physics (A Level) in Shanghai, China. I have a Masters in Linguistically Diverse Education and Bachelors degree in Science for Secondary Education.

I am very familiar with the GCSE curriculum and assessments and enjoy finding interesting ways to connect with the content. As a tutor, I believe it is important to get to know the student and to help them connect to the content in a way that best suits them and their learning style. Not only will I help with understanding the curriculum but I can also help in establishing organizational skills, 21st century skills (e.g. digital literacy, critical thinking and problem solving, collaboration and communication) and strategies dealing with stress (e.g. meditation, yoga and sports).
Through my Masters degree, I have gained the understanding, strategies and tools to work with EAL students to be successful in the classroom.
In regards to the curriculum I teach, I believe it is important to consider (1) quality of instruction rather than the quantity, (2) how a student connects to the content or the method, with which I teach it, (3) sequence of concepts as a whole to part, so students can build a context (4) Create meaningful assessments that provide evidence students are mastering essential questions and outcomes and (5) pacing that is appropriate for the learner.
