About Alexandra

My name is Alex, and I have a variety of experience relevant to tutoring! I lived abroad in Spain for 6 months, during which time I completed a Spanish certificate course, as well as teaching English abroad to kids and adults alike. Currently I am in the process of switching to the Open University, but previously I was studying Politics with Spanish at the University of Liverpool.

In regards to other relevant experience, I had a small stint teaching English abroad to kids and adults in Guatemala, as well as briefly volunteering in the Calais Refugee Camp (which involved teaching English, amongst other things). Additionally, I have had several waitressing and bartending jobs as well as various babysitting jobs, including that of my younger siblings and cousins. I therefore have had a diverse range of experience dealing with different types of people, so I would certainly say that I am definitely an approachable person for all ages and sizes!

About the lesson

I am a very enthusiastic individual who is passionate about learning, which certainly reflects itself in the learning experiences of the classes that I teach. I tailor the lesson to your needs and wants, so in the first lesson I will gauge your level, and then we can discuss what you want to aim for and how and what you want to learn; be that working towards an exam board, to highly structured classes or a more informal approach. This can range from following a more step-by-step approach, encompassing grammar, writing, speaking etc, to a more situational approach, such as travel, business, waitressing etc. I am very flexible! Normally though, I would dedicate each class to a topic, or anything that you needed to revise. I will then try and encompass a range of ways of teaching a theme, through various games, speaking exercises and writing exercises.

Being myself a Spaniard working on academia, and knowing Alexandra for quite a long time, I acknowledge her as a fluent speaker&writer in Spanish. She helped me to review some writing and did a remarkable job. Further, her academic background in Hispanic studies, along with a strong formation in literature/history, makes Alexandra a standout professor, the type that would go an extra mile, caring for the student and teaching concepts arising from practical experience that could not be found in traditional textbooks. I think she would be an excellent Superprof !

I had a wonderful time being taught Spanish by Alex. I have normally really struggled with learning languages, but Alex really took the time to find out what methods work best for me; making it fun and engaging. She is extremely hard working and put even more work outside of our lessons than I did! Her passion for the language really translates into her teaching. Would absolutely recommend her to anyone wanting to either pick up, or improve their Spanish!
