About Mario

I’m a 41-year-old Italian who has called Ireland home since January 2015. It’s here that I met my twin soul, Chloe—an amazing English and Yoga teacher—and where I’ve made some of my best friends, including my beloved cat, Boots. Alongside my passion for teaching and languages, I’m a creative at heart. In my spare time, I’m a painter and an analog photographer; I find drawing, painting, and printing photos in a darkroom incredibly relaxing and enjoyable. Like every good Italian, I also love cooking and enjoying a glass of red wine!

About the lesson

I’m a naturally empathetic teacher with a calming teaching style. As a former foreign language student myself, I can truly understand the challenges of the learning journey, especially during the early stages! That’s why I keep my classes playful and personalized to each student’s interests. Here’s how I typically structure a class: Lead-in: Ice-breaker activity (A brief conversational warm-up or a simple game in Italian). - Reading or Listening: never lengthy or overwhelming! Tailored to the student’s personal interests. - Vocabulary and Grammar Follow-up: A presentation and clarification of form, use, meaning, and pronunciation based on the reading/listening text. - ‘Non-boring’ Practice: Gap-fill and multiple-choice exercises to reinforce and practice the target language. These activities are revisited in a more playful way to make learning enjoyable. - Role Play and Speaking Practice: An engaging way to put newly learned words and grammar into practice. - Lesson Wrap-Up and 'Exit ticket': A moment to reflect on the lesson and areas of improvement. My experience as a teacher is built on daily practice with students of different nationalities, ages, and backgrounds at one of Cork's top language schools, Erin College. Alongside my extensive practical experience, I continuously deepen my knowledge of modern and effective teaching strategies through training, such as UCC Pedagogy Workshops, and peer observation.

Perfect! I’ve had four lessons so far with Mario and will definitely be continuing for the foreseeable future. His “teach, test, teach” style makes each session feel well-structured and easy to follow, which really helps everything stick. Since I’m moving to Italy in September, he’s been tailoring the lessons specifically to my needs—focusing on essential phrases, how to order in restaurants, hold casual conversations with locals, and do so in a polite and respectful way. It’s clear that he puts thought into personalizing the material, which makes the learning experience much more effective. On top of all that, he’s a genuinely nice guy—easy to talk to, patient, and encouraging. Highly recommend!
