About Caio

An educator with over a decade of experience, I worked with students of all ages and backgrounds, from middle-school to university. I have extensive experience in teaching all aspects of English, from reading comprehension and grammar to essay writing and revision.

I began my career as a classroom teacher in New York, teaching in both public and independent schools at the middle and high school levels. My students consistently scored highly on state-wide exams, and likewise out-performed their peers on standardized exams such as AP Language and AP Literature, with my students averaging a score of 4/5. Currently, I develop content and educational materials for two leading educational providers, creating curricula and lessons aligned to multiple standards and intended to reach the widest number of students possible. I graduated with a BA in Literary Studies, and went on to obtain my masters in Education.

About the lesson

Schools and universities often take reading comprehension and writing instruction for granted, overlooking students who've long struggled with even the most basic concepts and practices.

My tutoring is based on the belief that each student can become a strong reader and effective writer. I take the time to assess individual strengths and challenges, and tailor my lessons so each targets a specific area for growth. For younger students, I emphasize and reinforce the foundations: identifying themes and central ideas, the basics of paragraph and essay-writing, and so on; for high school and university students, we'll weave complexity into our foundational skills: analyzing literary devices and rhetorical strategies, writing a sophisticated thesis, complex sentence construction, and more.

I take pride in working closely with my students, walking them through each step of planning, drafting, and revision, ensuring they feel comfortable and confident with each step; we'll work together to break down each assignment so the student is clear on expectations in order to produce something in which they feel confident.

In each lesson I'll share effective strategies, formulas, and templates for writing strong academic essays, ones I've used successfully in my own teaching. Writing is often an intimidating area for students, so I aim to make it as accessible and simple as possible. My students leave my classroom or tutoring lessons as astute readers and confident writers.
