About Madison

Hello!! My name is Madi (she/her), and I'm a biology major who is planning on getting a minor in English literature. I am very passionate about reading, poetry, and creative writing. I took advanced placement classes throughout my time in high school, English being one of them, and have always excelled in the subject. I grew up in Alberta, Canada which notoriously has a very difficult curriculum, so I've got lots of experience writing all sorts of essays (critical and personal), poetry, and book discussion groups. I was a part of numerous English clubs including a creative writing club, poetry in voice, slam poetry, and book clubs as well! I even competed in a poetry in voice competition when I was 14, and was one of the 3 students chosen to participate out of the whole school.

English has always been a subject I have excelled at with little to no struggles, and I would be honoured to be able to share that passion with other people!

About the lesson

My experience sets me apart from other tutors because I genuinely love teaching, learning, and I love helping others. I believe English and writing are some of the most crucial skills to obtain in life and I love that I can help someone else out in a subject I have so much love for. For me personally, having a teacher who is passionate about what they are teaching is the best way to learn!

Since I mostly focus on creative writing and literature, my teaching techniques revolve around helping people find a writing style, as well as building their confidence in their writing. Writing is a vital skill in society; I want to be able to teach people not just how to write creatively (which would be the focus), but also give them skills that they can apply to a subject that requires writing papers or essays. I also love discussing literature, whether it's modern or classical. Depending on a student's needs, I would make a lesson plan to focus on helping them either with their writing or helping them with a book study (or both!).

*** I do not have a set lesson plan. I'm very fluid, and am willing to help in all areas of the subject of English. If there is material in class you don't understand and need some extra help with, please bring it into lessons!

You should take this class if you're in middle school or high school (12 - 17 years old) and want to improve your reading and writing proficiency! You should also take this class if you are struggling in English class, and need an extra hand to guide you through a paper or a book study (or any struggles you're having in English class).

If you are anxious or get embarrassed at all and had not great luck with other tutors, then I think Madi will be a great fit for you!
