About Maili

I have been to all kinds of schools with all kinds of teachers and my experience is that most of them are either incompetent or they don't know how to adapt their teaching style to students. Learning in a big class of people can be unfair to students that feel like they need more support or need to extend their understanding. Students either fall behind their peers or get held back from reaching their full potential. This also means that most students are cheated out of a chance to do well academically and are labelled as "not bright enough" which makes them accept defeat and stop trying. Teachers have also started to take on a trend of 'self learning', where students are left alone with a device and expected to do their own research and teach themselves the content which just sets them up for failure.

I believe every student has what it takes to succeed academically if they put in the effort, even if the education system doesn't give them this chance. By helping you catch up on work and learn new studying techniques to push you through your curriculum, I hope I can get you to a point where you don't need my lessons anymore!

About the lesson

My goal is to strengthen your foundation of English by expanding your vocabulary, explaining the structure of words (prefix, suffix etc.) and sentences and how this affects their meaning, learning about literary devices in writing to persuade or capture your audiences and more depending on your curriculum and upcoming homework/exams.

Apart from the actual curriculum I also want to introduce you to studying techniques that suit you depending on if you're an auditory, visual or tactile learner and the difficulty of your work. Studying does NOT just mean copying your textbook into your exercise books and never revising those 'notes' again. Techniques like the SQ3R method (for reading comprehension), flashcards + spaced repetition or even just watching YouTube videos to explain content can be much more effective. By getting to know you and exploring your strengths I can also adapt my teaching method to suit you, which is something most teachers in classrooms don't do.

The length of lessons can be negotiated but will typically be 1 hour.
