About Matt
I have a degree in Teaching English for Secondary Education and have taught classroom English Language Arts and US History for 15 years. I have also held school leadership positions, as well as worked as a charter school consultant with the California Department of Education. I consider it my calling to work with scholars to engage with the great works of literature and learn ideals that will guide them in life.

I encourage communication through a variety of learning tools, including discussion, multi-media, and interactive lessons. My teaching methods engage scholars at all levels to reach deep understanding of the literature. I am an expert the classics, from Homer to Shakespeare, the Victorian age of heroes, and post-modern American literature.
A typical lesson would begin with a pre-reading discussion to find out what interests the scholar concerning the particular piece of literature. Then, we would use a variety of media to explore the historical perspective of the literature and it's author, including social impacts. The reading is and engaging exploration of themes and characters, with plenty of time to respond in writing and through open discussion of ideas. The final assessment would be a further exploration of the elements of the literature as they are perceived by the student, with writing, art, and other modes of assignments based on the student's interest and abilities.
I can provide instruction to fit grades 9- 12 and undergraduate scholars.
