I am a freelance arts writer who has recently finished my MA in Literary Studies (pathway in Shakespeare and the Early Modern) at Goldsmiths University. I have been giving lessons to two GCSE students for a year now, watching them achieve 4's and above in their coursework (coursework graded out of 5).

My teaching methodology is to understand my student as an individual who is in control of their own learning, and ensure they understand that in turn. I have given lessons to GCSE (AQA and Excel) students and was also in charge of a study group at university which provided assistance to fellow students with coursework and creative writing exercises. My lesson structure is very much dependent on the individual student / group dynamics. If the student is more methodological in the way they learn, I tend to break revision and coursework down into individual categories of what to include inline with the mark scheme (structure, form, language techniques, context etc.) to make the 'no right answer' English task seem more digestible. However, if the student is more creative, I adjust my approach to accommodate this, coming up with engaging tasks to encourage learning, like asking them to write a poem using three different literary techniques we have learnt within it.
