About Juan Diego
I am an International Student from Bogotá, Colombia. My family has always been in the business of education, and I currently work professionally with children from my city. I work with children aged 7 to 18 years old, and have been doing so consistently for about a year. I moved to Montreal, QC, about 5 years ago, and I am fluent in both Spanish and English, and proficient in French. I am also someone very familiar with the culture of Spanish, and who takes interest in learning about linguistics and anthropology, two things I use to my advantage when teaching.

My methodology for teaching languages is based around immersing the student in the cultural context of said language. Engaging with music, art, and history from the culture the language comes from is imperative to have an effective learning experience. A regular lesson starts off with introductions, and a small conversation to gauge the student's proficiency in the language. After that, I usually will select a specific topic to talk about and explain, usually showing a video, song, or short film to put the topic into context, and then we usually end with a written or spoken exercise to make sure the student internalized the lesson. I base my class experience on the concept of practice. It is my belief that the only way to truly learn a language is to immerse yourself in it, by practicing constantly, engaging with media in said language, and engaging with the culture. With my classes, I try to replicate that experience so that the student has a firm grasp on the language.
