About Emily
I am an educator with over ten years of professional experience in classrooms in the San Francisco-Bay Area, India, and New York City. I currently hold teaching certifications in California, New York, and the United Kingdom. For the past five years, I managed a theater department at a large public high school in Queens. During my time there, my key achievements include: 1. Devising rigorous curriculum and training portfolios aligned to NY State standards to fit the learning needs and goals of over five hundred students. This included virtual, hybrid, and in-person curriculum with leadership opportunities for students. For example, one program I created involved students directing each other in original plays for a highly successful production. 2. Supervising the projects and progress of over one hundred students, with a 100% success rate of meeting deadlines and exceeding expectations in their projects. This included modifying lessons and activities to fit all learners and personality types. I am particularly proud of creating a space where every single member felt psychologically safe enough to practice speaking publicly and share their creative work. 3. Directing and producing highly successful company-wide events on time and within budget. Each production also required creating and maintaining relationships with vendors for events.

My style of teaching is student-centered and for all experience levels. Been acting your entire life and need a few coaching sessions for pilot season? I'll provide you with sides to help you prepare with roles you are likely to be cast in. Brilliant at writing code but the idea of presenting your work out loud terrifies you? We'll work together in a warm and supportive environment to make you a natural public speaker. Our first lesson will look more like an informal conversation where we can create goals together, I can learn about what works for you as a student, and what materials you'll need from me. For more experienced or time-pressed students, the first five minutes will be dedicated to goals for the session, then we'll get to work!
