About Lucy

I am a very considerate, approachable and patient person; qualities that make me very well-suited to working with children. I am dedicated, enthusiastic and a positive person, particularly when I am teaching. I am self-critical, keen to learn and develop my skills further to allow me to proceed on the pathway to becoming a fully qualified, experienced and successful teacher. I enjoy sharing my knowledge and experience, helping children grow and mature, and inspiring them whilst playing an important role in shaping their future. I have excellent work ethic, which I have consistently demonstrated throughout my education and career. I strive to do the best I can and undertake every task I complete with gusto and I endeavour to do more than is expected.

About the lesson

When I am teaching, I am very clear about my expectations of both behaviour and the standard of work that I would like to be completed. I use a wide variety of behaviour management techniques, including positive praise and modelling the ideal attitudes to promote good and effective learning. I am able to use the National Curriculum to plan and deliver engaging and interactive series of lessons across both phases. I have used different assessment techniques (both formative and summative) including using an excel spreadsheet to identify gaps in students’ knowledge and asking for thumbs up/down to check that adequate progress is being made.

My topics begin with a hook to engage and motivate the pupils. A typical lesson consists of a concise starter activity to consolidate previous learning, a main body of the lesson involving an engaging presentation accompanied by interactive activities. Finally, there is a plenary to check the children’s understanding of the lesson and to introduce the next lesson in the series. I am constantly assessing the children and their progress towards the learning outcomes. I am very adaptable and have regularly changed my planned lessons as a result of the children’s understanding, following my assessment. In addition, I am computer literate and am aware of how to use technology to optimise learning.
