About Zachariah
Everything we talk about in this class stays between us. I’ll always show up professionally, and I expect the same from you.
But being professional doesn’t mean I’ll be stiff or distant. I want to get to know what matters to you, because the more I understand your interests, the easier it is to make science feel relevant.
For example, if you play football, I might explain the electron transport chain through a play on the field. Imagine the quarterback handing the ball to the runner, the linemen clearing the way, and then suddenly the ball is fumbled. A linebacker scoops it up and runs it back for a touchdown. That’s a lot like how electrons move through the complexes in the electron transport chain, eventually leading to ATP production, the “score” of the play.

I augment my teaching and lesson plans depending on how you learn best. If you learn best through visual aids, I will provide videos with 3D renderings illustrating how interconnecting parts play together. If you learn through auditory means, I will explain each piece of a section to you over chat. I follow this by asking you to repeat what I said. By parroting the information, you will retain more of the lesson. For hands-on learners, I ask that you write everything down as I speak. We can discuss alternate routes for helping you later.
A typical lesson plan will start with you relaying what you are having trouble understanding in your classes. Once I know the content you are covering and how you are struggling, I will formulate a plan for the day to get you through that roadblock.
When I start tutoring students, I will have a master's in biomedical science. This master's has a special focus on microbiology and immunology. I can tutor for either class. My lab did work on mitochondrial control of macrophages and how this impacts atherosclerotic plaque deposition, so I can help in immunology. As for microbiology, bacteria and viruses have always captivated my attention. I performed well at graduate levels of these courses, so I can break down the portions you cover in undergraduate courses.
P.S. Writing down spoken or relayed information, regardless of medium it's derived from, will help you learn the subject matter
