About Kate

Hello, I'm Kate, a Durham University student studying psychology! My passion for psychology is forever growing, and I am very eager to help other students to expand their knowledge in this field of study. I also have a love for sociology, my optional module at university in my first year. I believe my love, enjoyment, and ability in these subjects allows me to stand out from other contenders. I received top grades at A-Level in both: A* in psychology, A in sociology. I was asked to tutor year 12 students in psychology, as teachers recognised my ability as well as my passion for helping others around me. My work was often given out to the class as an example, and I was asked to help students with revision techniques close to exams. I have also been tutoring online for 2 years now, offering one to one sessions to pupils. Both subjects fascinate me. Sociology has led me to analyse everyday life in ways I had never, while psychology has, and keeps on allowing me to understand the way our complicated brain functions! Psychology has always been something that has captured my attention, my interest growing throughout A-Levels. My goal is to go into the field of forensic psychology, working with offenders and trying to understand the cognition behind crimes. This is where my interest in sociology draws in, as the topic of criminology allows me to analyse the social circumstances of crime. I plan to help you improve by breaking down the nitty-gritty theories and concepts, to a more understandable format, from which I will guide you through (as slowly and as many times as you need!).

My first port of call will be to get to know you and the area you need help on. For example, whether it is a particular topic or how to structure answers to questions. I will then break down the area into basic components, and we will work our way through each one. I will plan my tutoring sessions for each pupil, providing a personalised study session and plan we will work through together. We can move onto a different area each session or build upon an area from the previous session. I want pupils to get the most out of each session, so I will aim to get through as much as possible, without sacrificing the depth of the content we are covering. Depending on your requests and needs I will create materials I can email to you, such as simplified notes or diagrams. I will measure progress each session by providing a practice question at the start, and the same question at the end. I will then assess the progress made. If there is potential for further advancement, I will create materials for you to go over, and at the start of the next session overview the area again, if pupils wish to do so. Encouraging learning is crucial to ensure pupils achieve to the best of their ability. Prompting pupils to go the extra mile, giving positive and constructive feedback, and reassuring them they are capable of their goal are all ways I will encourage pupils in their learning. I hope to be able to tutor you soon, helping you to become more confident in your studies and exams.
