About Chioma
My name is Chioma and I studied History at Durham University, graduating with Upper Second-Class honours. My highest marks were in my dissertation on the changing interpretation of the Benin bronzes in Britain since the late 19th century; Classical and Baroque architectural history, English illuminated manuscripts and the history of urbanisation in modern European cities. I also have A-Levels in History, Maths and Government & Politics, achieving 3As. I have 3+ years of experience as a History tutor, working with young children through to university students. As such, I believe that I have learnt effective tactics used to engage, relate and where necessary, steer the students to complete their work. Not only this, but I have also worked as an English tutor for 14 months in South Korea, during my gap year. Therefore I have knowledge of TOEFL examinations as well as being able to adapt my teaching style to cater to the requirements of the student.

I focus on a multimedia approach so the information has a chance to get in through different senses; such as recommending an academic podcast as homework for the basis of a discussion. I encourage students to explain to me for a few minutes what their answer would be to an exam question. This is when you really know if they can answer it under pressure with clear thought. I try to tutor in a way that is enthusiastic and clear. Engaging with my students intellectually on the material and then honing that interest so they can get the grades they deserve.
