About Seamus

I'm Seamus Allen, a working actor, improviser and acting teacher, and Head of Foundation at The Oxford School of Drama.

I specialise in helping aspiring actors prepare for drama school auditions and get the very best out of themselves in the audition room.

I've spent many years training actors for professional drama-school and conservatoire courses, including helping students develop the acting skills, confidence and creative instincts they need to succeed in demanding auditions.

I understand the process from both sides: as an actor and teacher, and from within a drama-school training environment.

My approach is practical, direct and encouraging. I won't teach you to produce a polished “audition performance”. I'll help you become a more interesting, responsive and confident actor — and then help you show that in the room.

I can help you with:

• Choosing the right monologues for you
• Shakespeare and classical text
• Contemporary speeches
• Text analysis and character work
• Making strong, specific acting choices
• Working with a reader
• Taking direction from an audition panel
• Improvisation and spontaneous response
• Self-tapes and online auditions
• Drama-school interviews
• Managing nerves
• Full mock auditions
• Understanding what drama schools are actually looking for

My background in improvisation is a particular advantage. Auditions aren't just about having a good monologue. Panels want to see an actor who can listen, respond, take direction, make choices and stay alive in the moment.

That's what we'll work on.

Whether you're applying to RADA, LAMDA, Guildhall, The Oxford School of Drama, Central, Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, RWCMD, Mountview, East 15 or another drama school or conservatoire, I'll help you prepare intelligently and make sure the audition shows the actor you could become.

The aim isn't to make you look like a finished actor.

It's to give the panel a reason to want to train you.

Drama School Audition Coaching

Drama-school auditions are not simply about performing a good monologue.

The panel is trying to discover who you are as an actor, how you think, how you respond and whether you have the potential to develop through training.

My lessons are designed around exactly that.

We'll work practically, using your own audition material wherever possible.

Depending on what you need, a session might include:

CHOOSING YOUR MATERIAL
Finding speeches that genuinely suit you and give the panel something interesting to see.

MAKING THE TEXT WORK
Breaking down the circumstances, relationships, objectives and discoveries within the speech, then turning that analysis into playable choices.

BUILDING THE PERFORMANCE
Finding a truthful, specific and compelling way into the material without becoming over-rehearsed or “performing at” the panel.

TAKING DIRECTION
Practising the ability to receive a note, make an adjustment and immediately explore something different.

IMPROVISATION & SPONTANEITY
Developing the instinct, responsiveness and freedom that allow you to stay alive in the room rather than simply reproducing something you've rehearsed.

INTERVIEW PREPARATION
Preparing for the questions panels may ask and, more importantly, becoming comfortable talking honestly and intelligently about yourself and your reasons for wanting to train.

MOCK AUDITIONS
Putting all of this together in a realistic audition environment, including working with a reader, receiving direction and dealing with the unexpected.

Every actor needs something different.

So rather than giving you a standard “drama-school audition lesson”, we'll identify exactly what will make the biggest difference to your audition.

The goal is simple:

You walk into the audition prepared — but still able to surprise us.

# Audition Assessment Session

**Not sure what you're doing with your drama-school audition? Start here.**

This isn't a generic introductory acting lesson.

It's a focused 60-minute assessment designed to work out **exactly what you need to do to become audition-ready.**

Before the session, I'll ask you to send me:

• The drama schools you're applying to
• Your audition dates, if you have them
• Your chosen monologues, if you've selected them
• Any audition requirements you've been given
• Anything you're particularly worried about

Then we'll use the session to identify your strengths, weaknesses and priorities.

# During the session we'll look at:

**1. YOUR MATERIAL**

Are your monologues right for you?

Do they show enough range?

Are you actually giving the panel an opportunity to discover something about you?

**2. YOUR ACTING**

We'll put some of your material on its feet and see what happens.

I'll look at your instincts, choices, connection to the text, physicality, voice and ability to stay present.

**3. YOUR RESPONSE TO DIRECTION**

I'll give you adjustments and see what happens when you have to change your approach.

This is a crucial part of audition preparation.

**4. YOUR AUDITION PRESENCE**

How do you enter the room?

How do you introduce yourself?

What happens when you're nervous?

Are you trying to impress the panel, or are you actually engaging with them?

**5. YOUR PREPARATION PLAN**

At the end, I'll give you a clear idea of what I think you should work on next.

You'll leave knowing:

**what is already working, what needs attention, and what we can do about it.**

If you decide to continue working with me, we'll then build a preparation programme around your actual auditions.

And if you don't, you'll still leave with a clearer understanding of what you need to do.

**This session is particularly useful if you have an audition coming up and don't know where to start.**

# Want more than one session?

If you're preparing seriously for drama-school auditions, I also offer discounted coaching packages:

**5-SESSION AUDITION PREPARATION — £275**
A focused programme covering material selection, text work, acting choices, taking direction, audition technique and a full mock audition.

**10-SESSION COMPLETE AUDITION PROGRAMME — £550**
For applicants applying to several drama schools or wanting support throughout the audition process, from choosing material through to final mock auditions and interview preparation.

You can start with a **one-hour Audition Assessment Session (£60)** and decide afterwards whether a longer programme would be useful.
