About Nicola

Hello! My name is Nicola and I am an experienced teacher and private tutor in mathematics. I help students from 13 years and upwards who want to improve their maths skills, increase their subject knowledge and gain confidence.

I have a Masters in Education Management, BSc (hons) in Mathematics & a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) meaning I am a fully qualified teacher.I have been teaching Functional Skills and GCSE maths for over 6 years and have taught in a variety of settings including FE, schools, adult learning centres, in the work place and prison. I am currently Head of Maths in a Sixth Form College and tutor part-time, specialising in GCSE maths, Functional Skills and helping trainee teachers prepare for the QTS Professional Numeracy Skills Test.

I love to share my passion for numbers and get great pleasure when my students see changes in the way they think. I have a deep understanding into the way people learn and the struggles many people have with maths. By creating a supportive and nurturing learning environment, I have seen huge improvements in students' grades as they approach their studies with new found confidence, enthusiasm and independence.

I have coached many students on a one to one basis for over 6 years. All my students have increased their confidence in maths and with my guidance all my students have passed their maths GCSEs with top grades, moved up sets in school and passed professional skills tests.

I am also a qualified therapist and life coach with over 12 years' experience helping people deal with anxiety, stress and self-confidence.

I have a great passion for learning and mathematics education and I have recently completed research focusing on mathematics in Further Education, education policy and social justice.

I currently tutor from my home and so students will need to travel to me. I have Enhanced DBS Clearance and references are available on request.

Nicola was an excellent tutor for our daughter during Year 11 and in the run-up to her GSCE maths exam. My daughter was always decent at maths but was finding some areas difficult and having a slight crisis of confidence, so we asked Nicola to start tutoring her about eight months before she took her GCSEs. She came for one hour every two weeks.
Nicola immediately put my daughter at ease. She enjoyed the sessions and could address any topic she had concerns about, and together they worked through the problems together.
Nicola helped with my daughter’s revision just ahead of the exam too – she started coming weekly in the month before the exam and often stayed beyond the one hour.
In short, I'd wholeheartedly recommend Nicola as a tutor. She was reliable and friendly and it was very convenient for us that she visited our house for the tutorials.
