About Kathleen
I have been awarded Teacher of the Year and Most Valuable Employee and served as chair of the English Department for 25 years at Xavier College Preparatory, a Roman Catholic school for young women in Phoenix, AZ. Xavier is a highly respected institution whose graduates attend selective colleges and Ivy League universities and remain loyal to their Alma Mater. Xavier has also won the National Blue Ribbon Award four times, and I have had the privilege of working there and celebrating Xavier’s growth in excellence. I value diversity, equity, and inclusion and creating a classroom and school community, and have taught AP and dual enrollment classes. I rated AP exams in Literature in person and online, and served as a table leader for AP readings as well. In my administrative work I greatly enjoyed mentoring and guiding new teachers and collaborating with faculty to create a supportive, inclusive environment while maintaining a high standard of conduct and healthy competition.

In 40 years of teaching, students have told me that they enjoy my classes and benefit from the personal attention and respect I show them. I guide them through reading texts, draw out their ideas in discussions, and guide them through the writing process, helping them become skilled editors of their own and others’ work. I use technology judiciously and emphasize the importance of using technology ethically. Keeping a balanced perspective and a sense of humor helps everyone enjoy learning.
